The old saying \u201cIf it ain\u2019t broke, don\u2019t fix it\u201d is out and has been replaced with \u201cIf you don\u2019t love it, replace it!\u201d when it comes to home improvement. The number of\u00a0<\/span>home renovation projects in the US\u00a0<\/span>have\u00a0<\/span>increased rapidly over the years with projections of continual increase for the future due to more and more people wanting custom spaces to fit their lifestyles and match their needs.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the idea of a renovation can be overwhelming, especially for a first timer. Here are some of the basics you should know before beginning:<\/span><\/p>\n

One- Plan, plan, review the\u00a0<\/span>plan and plan some more\u2026
\nwe\u2019ve all seen the home improvement shows on HGTV where they begin a renovation and inevitably run into a snag that results in needing more money to continue or having to restructure the original plan. It\u2019s important to make a real project and budget plan for your home before beginning the process but also be emotionally and financially prepared to implement a plan B, and possibly C in the event that things don\u2019t go accordingly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two- Consider the behind the scenes renovations first
\nyou can\u2019t build on an insecure foundation. Make sure the electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, etc. are intact before considering the cosmetic stuff.<\/span><\/p>\n

Three- Thoroughly research experts before you hire them
\nthe internet has made it easy to make sure you know who you are dealing with before you ever meet them. Take advantage of that! Research your contractors\/designers and make sure you are comfortable before hiring them. It\u2019s important to ask about their experience level, insurance and certifications, past project photos, and reviews from other customers. Four- Tell your designer everything
\nyou might have big visions for your home but can only implement a part of that right now. That\u2019s Ok. But it\u2019s important to relay all your wants with your designer before any work is done so they can plan accordingly for the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

Five- Consider living somewhere else during the process
\nliving through a renovation can be an emotional rollercoaster not to mention an invasion of privacy. If possible, consider living somewhere else for the time being.<\/span><\/p>\n
